Is it June yet?
We're going to Corsica! WHEEEEE!!!!! I've booked it an we're GOING!!!! I may be a bit over-excited.

I have a particular love, verging on a passion, for Corsica. Why Corsica in particular? No idea. It's awfully pretty, with jolly nice beaches and spectacular mountains and it's warm etc etc, just like a lot of holiday destinations, I guess. But it goes way beyond that. When I arrive I feel like I've come home; when I leave I cry. Always. Odd behaviour for a part Scots, part Irish Brit without a Mediterranean gene in her body, I know, but there it is.

So - did I mention we're going to Corsica? Cargese to be precise:

Photobucket

on the West coast, within walking distance of glorious beaches:

Photobucket

and not far from the wonderful, rugged, pink granite mountains:

Photobucket

with their waterfalls and rock pools to swim in.

Not done this bit of the island before. It's a three-and-a-half hour drive from the airport on twisty mountain roads, which will be a joy at sparrow's fart with two stroppy kids, but I DON'T CARE! We're going to CORSICA!!!

I'll worry about the bank balance another day, because - sheesh! Expensive! But no matter, because in case I didn't mention it before, WE'RE GOING TO CORSICA!!!

Oh, well. Best get back to work.

*sigh*

Is it June yet?

YAY! on the Corsica trip.

I had a friend who claimed past lives experiences. She'd have the same feelings about a place that you mentioned. It actually happened to me when I was in Paris. I felt like I was "home". I am Mexican as far from France as the moon. Yet, there I was, riding the Metro like I'd been there all my life. People asking ME for directions... it was funny and I did weep when I left.

It's strange, isn't it? People have said it's just because I'm there on holiday, but I've been to many other destinations and never felt the attachment. I'd love to believe I was a Corsican in a previous life, but if I was I haven't carried over any gift for the language! At least Corsica is relatively close to home - your feeling of attachment to Paris is a long way off! Any French blood lurking in the family tree?

I love France and I love Italy, but I've never been to Corsica which looks, as one would expect, like a beautiful blend of both. Yet that beach has almost a Cornish look to it.

We haven't booked a holiday yet. I suddenly feel I need to do something about this...

I do see what yo mean about Cornwall - that's one of my avourite parts of the country (next to the North East) and yes, rugged coastlines and hidden coves and beaches are certainly a feature of Corsica, too!

Corsica is very individual and the people are fiercely independent! It's basically a mountain sticking out of the sea, but it is stunningly beautiful in a not-too-tamed way - just like Cornwall - and it has an atmosphere and smell which is just unique and wonderful. The Greeks called it Calliste which means beautiful island. It's not heavily developed for the most part, which helps - although now Sleezyjet fly there, I guess things might change! The downside is it's very popular with the better off, so prices are relatively high, and the beautiful Italians, so the beaches get depressing for flabby, pale Brits like me! But you can usually find a quiet one where there's less toned and tanned flesh on view. And the ice-cream is to die for.

Well, if you'e looking for somewhere to holiday, I can recommend Corsica. But I may be biased ;)

I'm so happy for you, Cass . I know how much it means to you to go there. The West coast of Corsica is gorgeous , it's definitely my favourite parts of the island-where I spent holidays each year in July during my childhood and teenager times. When I opened the window of my room in the morning , I could see the Calanques all pink and golden.. I didn't realize then how lucky I was.:)(If you have a look at a map , my village is Osani in the Porto bay)

The last pic shows the road crossing the famous 'Calanques' de Piana. In which village are you staying ? Cargese ? Porto?

Oh, what a wonderful way to spend childhood summers! I'm so looking forward to going up to Piana and seeing Les Calanques, and taking a boat trip up the coast to the Scandola area and visiting Girolata and finding mountain pools and golden beaches and... so much, really! We shall have to visit Osani, too, so I can feel close to you :)

We're staying just outside Cargese - near to Pero beach. We're rentng a villa a 10 minute walk away which looks out over the bay toward the watchtower, so it should be lovely. And we're going for two weeks this time, so hopefully will be able to do everything we want! I really can't wait! It almost makes the struggle with work worthwhile, knowing I have that reward coming.

So...you're going to Corsica then? Perhaps you've already been...it is June after all. Sorry I haven't been in touch; things have been getting on top of me lately...But Corsica, eh? Do have a lovely time, and who knows, you may be lucky enough to hear my friend David strum his guitar in one of the eateries. He lives there now, and occasionally gigs there too.
